Precision, Balance & Modern Float Fishing at Its Best
The Drennan Vertex Float Rods MK2 are the latest evolution of Drennan’s much-loved Vertex range — redesigned, refined, and rebuilt for even greater balance, sensitivity, and casting performance. These rods are built for anglers who want the perfect tool for all float fishing styles, from running a stick float down a river to presenting a waggler on a stillwater.
With high-quality carbon blanks, improved tip recovery, and premium fittings, the Vertex Float MK2 rods offer incredible precision and control. Light, crisp, and responsive, they deliver smooth casting, superb line control, and reliable fish-playing action across all UK float fishing conditions.
Built for All Float Fishing Scenarios
The Vertex Float MK2 range has been developed to give anglers the versatility to fish on rivers, lakes, and commercials with equal confidence.
The action is progressive and forgiving, offering excellent bite detection and hook protection when using fine lines and small hooks, yet retaining the strength and power to play larger fish with ease. Whether trotting for dace and roach, or targeting F1s and bream on stillwaters, these rods perform beautifully across all situations.
This is a true all-round float range, designed for modern versatility and traditional feel
High-Quality Carbon Blanks
Each MK2 rod is constructed from high-modulus carbon fibre, making the blank both lightweight and strong.
The use of this advanced material gives the rods their crisp, fast recovery when casting — helping maintain line control and accuracy. The blank’s responsive tip picks up line instantly on the strike, while the progressive mid-section ensures smooth power transfer when playing fish.
The result is a float rod that feels feather-light yet has the resilience and backbone needed for a wide range of fishing styles.
Available Models and Lengths
The Drennan Vertex Float Rods MK2 come in a selection of lengths to suit every venue and technique:
11ft Vertex MK2 Float – A superb short rod for close-range work, perfect for small commercials or tight swims. Great for F1s and margin fishing.
12ft Vertex MK2 Float – The ultimate all-rounder for waggler or stick float fishing. Perfect for canals, small rivers, and stillwaters.
13ft Vertex MK2 Float – Designed for more traditional float fishing, offering extra reach and control over the line on larger lakes or rivers.
14ft Vertex MK2 Float – Built for deeper water and distance work, ideal for controlling long trots or fishing larger wagglers at range.
Each model has been fine-tuned to deliver the best possible action for its intended use.
Casting and Line Control
The Vertex Float MK2 rods excel at accurate casting and effortless line pickup.
The smooth, progressive blank allows you to cast small wagglers, stick floats, or sliders with precision and control. The crisp recovery means your float lands cleanly without unwanted bounce, keeping presentation natural.
Once your rig is in the water, the rod’s responsiveness and reach make it easy to mend line and stay in contact with the float, even at distance or in windy conditions. This gives anglers an edge in both presentation and bite detection.
Fish-Playing Action
As with all Drennan rods, the fish-playing action is carefully balanced to give you total confidence once you hook up.
The soft tip cushions sudden runs and protects fine hooklengths, while the mid and butt sections provide ample power to subdue larger fish. The transition through the blank is seamless, creating a smooth progressive curve that makes playing any fish an absolute pleasure.
Whether you’re netting a small roach or a double-figure carp, the Vertex Float MK2 responds perfectly — strong when you need it, forgiving when it matters.
Premium Components and Finishing Touches
Drennan has equipped the Vertex Float MK2 range with the same high standard of fittings found throughout its flagship rods:
Lightweight stainless-frame guides with durable, low-friction inserts for smooth line flow.
Downlocking DPS-style reel seat for a secure fit and perfect balance.
Cork handle with EVA rear grip providing comfort and control during long sessions.
Low-gloss carbon finish with subtle Vertex MK2 branding for a clean, professional appearance.
These quality touches don’t just look great — they enhance performance and longevity, ensuring every rod feels solid, dependable, and premium in the hand.
Versatility Across Venues
These rods shine across a variety of fishing situations:
Commercial lakes: Perfect for pellet waggler or shallow float work for F1s and carp.
Rivers: Excellent for trotting stick or Avon floats for roach, chub, or dace.
Stillwaters and canals: Ideal for light waggler work for skimmers, tench, and bream.
General coarse fishing: Equally at home float fishing maggots, corn, or pellets for mixed species.
Their all-round capability makes them a great choice for both match and pleasure anglers who fish multiple venues.
